A Day in the Life of a Little Story Shapers Franchisee
One of the questions I get asked most often is, “What does a typical day look like for you?” And the honest answer is: no two days are ever exactly the same — but that’s part of the magic of being a Little Story Shapers franchisee. One of the biggest benefits of running a flexible children’s activity business is how well it fits around family life.
My day usually starts like many other parents’ days do: with the school run. There’s the familiar morning rush of shoes, bags, snack reminders, and last-minute hugs before heading off. Once the children are dropped off, it’s straight into work mode — but work that fits beautifully around family life.
Setting Up and Running Children’s Storytelling Classes
I arrive at the hall or community centre where I’m running children’s storytelling and sensory classes. Setting up is one of my favourite quiet moments of the day. Laying out props, books, sensory resources and activity stations feels a bit like setting the stage before a performance. There’s something exciting about knowing that soon the space will be filled with little voices, big imaginations and lots of laughter.
As families start to arrive, the hall comes alive. Our baby and toddler classes are busy, creative, and joyful designed to support early childhood development, confidence, and creativity. We sing, we tell stories, we explore movement and play, and we watch children grow in confidence right before our eyes. Seeing a shy child join in for the first time or watching a parent share a special moment with their child never gets old.
Engaging with parents is a huge part of what makes the job so rewarding. There’s time to chat before and after class, to answer questions, celebrate milestones, and build genuine relationships. Little Story Shapers isn’t just about the sessions — it’s about community. There’s a lovely social side to the work, and many parents return week after week not just for their children, but for the connection too.
Packing Up and Enjoying a Flexible Afternoon
Once classes are finished, it’s time to pack up. Props away, hall tidied, car loaded — and then it’s home for lunch. By early afternoon, the pace shifts again. One of the biggest perks of running my own franchise is choosing how I spend this time.
Some afternoons are for work. I might sit down with a cup of tea and tackle admin tasks: I’ll reply to emails, upload a few Instagram stories for my small business, send adverts to local Facebook parenting groups, and plan upcoming classes or special events. I might work on marketing, lesson planning, or admin — all essential parts of running a successful children’s franchise business. It doesn’t feel like a chore, it feels like building something that’s truly mine.
Other days, I’ll use that time for life admin or a bit of freedom. A food shop without children in tow feels like a luxury, or I might meet a friend for coffee, catch up, and enjoy having flexibility during the working day. Being able to choose how I spend my afternoons is one of the biggest benefits of running a family-friendly business. That balance is something I never take for granted.
School Pick-Up and Family Time
Before I know it, it’s time for the school pick-up again. Afternoons and early evenings are for my children — hearing about their day, helping with homework, or just spending time together. Then it’s the familiar routine of dinner, bath time, stories, and bed.
And once the house is quiet, the evening is mine. Sometimes I’ll do a little more work — planning, scheduling posts, or organising resources. Other nights, I’ll relax on the sofa, squeeze in a workout, read a book, or simply enjoy switching off. Having the choice is what matters most.
